In an effort to boost its growth abroad, Yahoo will be announcing a number of partnerships with wireless carriers in Asia, according to company President Sue Decker. The company has previously announced deals with carriers in South Korea, Malaysia, and Taiwan. Yahoo claims to have more than 25 million users in the Asia-Pacific region.

With the US market starting to mature, Asia is quickly becoming a major area of interest for the big US Internet companies. In addition to its mobile efforts, Yahoo recently took an additional 10 percent stake in Alibaba.com, China's largest e-commerce company. Meanwhile, Microsoft just unveiled an initiative to let users create Windows Live ID's via mobile in an effort to reach customers in developing parts of the world.

Yahoo seems to be rushing to close the gap with Google by flooding the mobile space (revamped Pipes released yesterday). Not sure if this momentum can derail the coming Google Phone Train.
