Over the weekend we ran a story that the iPhone may be hitting Canada on December 7th, offered through Rogers Communications. The rumor was based on an advertisement that popped up and was sent in to Boy Genius Report. A spokesperson for Rogers just got in touch to let us know that the advertisement was not authorized by the company and is “not Rogers-approved”.

In other words, Rogers neither confirms or denies that the iPhone will actually be hitting stores in Canada on December 7th, they are just upset the ad ran in the first place. The ad certainly looked to be legitimate, but it seems odd for Rogers to not want to build up anticipation for an iPhone launch if they are in fact going to be selling the device.

Perhaps the ad was just a well executed fake, or maybe someone in Roger’s ad department messed up big time. In any event, we’ve contacted the company for clarification and will update accordingly.
