ReelProerties.tv is an interesting website that is geared toward real estate agents and promotes properties with videos. There are a few things I like about this website, aside from the videos.
There are several useful tools for sharing information about a property, including the ability to embed videos in other websites, and email them out to friends. You can also leave comments on a particular property, as well as questions. This is useful for the person selling or leasing the property, because now they have a centralized location in which to address everyone’s questions. It’s also good for users, because they can now benefit from the answers to questions that have already been asked.
The information included for each listing is what you’d expect, and can easily be accessed via tabs for amenities, desription, etc. Filtering options for search are helpful, and the browsing tool lets you set a good amount of parameters for finding a property. This seems to be limited at the moment–no matter what parameters I set for a search, I was always given New York properties. Perhaps ReelProperties hasn’t moved beyond it’s current city just yet.
Some things that could greatly enhance the existing features on ReelProperties would be more options on the embedded video, which could allow for direct contact of the owner, or the ability to see other, related videos. The idea of displaying related videos throughout the ReelProperties website would be helpful as well.
In terms of its business, ReelProperties obviously has a dedication to marrying the YouTube mentality with real estate search and promotion. That being said, it’s going directly for the real estate pros, who may currently be grasping at just about anything to improve their businesses, as many struggle with the current housing market.
So what ReelProperties has done is insert all listings from a brokerage, so that when an agent does go to list a proerty on ReelProperties, it’s already been included. Now the majority of the work has been done on behalf of the agent. All that the agent needs to do is get the property video taped. Considering that Zillow is now entering more friendly terms with the real estate industry, tools such as this may improve overall relationships between online tools and the real estate industry.
To that end, ReelProperties is giving away 500 free property videos for New York City. There’s a catch: you’ll have to vote for ReelProperties on idealblob in order to get the free video. It’s a win-win situation (if not somewhat unethical) for ReelProperties, because the more votes it receives, the more likely it will be to win the business plan competition, so with the exchange of votes for free stuff on the site, it’s essentially bribing its way to the top.
One good thing about ReelProperties’ business plans for its site is the advertising displays, which will be location-based and more relevant to site visitors based on the properties they’re searching.
At any rate, there are a few things missing on this site, which depends on real estate professionals for its very survival. There’s no easy way to self-promote on this site, meaning there’s no immediate access from the majority of the site to personal profiles with information about myself, contact info, blogs, and the aggregate of all my video listings on ReelProperties.
Additionally, with so much of the process automated on ReelProperties, throwing in some outside resources for finding a videographer or offering tips for doing it yourself would encourage real estate professionals to add videos. Expanding this service to include slide shows may be helpful as well, because taking a bunch of pictures and creating a slide show is a lot easier than getting a videographer.
