RocketShotz is a new mobile service that lets you find mobile websites faster. The hope is to help you avoid having to type in websites URLs on your mobile, and generally avoiding the hassle that goes along with mobile web browsing. RocketShotz begins to ease this pain with a start page of sorts, which takes you directly to a bookmarked website that you’ve customized for your personal use.

This particular aspect of RocketShotz is done online. Select the category for each of your bookmarks, for things like weather, finance, news, etc. Then you can add all sorts of websites for each category, which are of course bookmarked for easy, direct access. There are a few categories on your start page that can’t be customized, such as the featured mobile website for the month. This is good for RocketShotz (hopefully this is sponsored?), because it’s pushing content for you. If it happens to be a site that you enjoy, then by golly it’s good for you too.

The downfall seems to be that all of this setup needs to take place online, which means you’ll need to determine the type of content you want before you’re actually out using your mobile phone. And unlike services like Tappity, there doesn’t seem to be an associated service for creating a mobile website from existing content, though users can submit mobile websites to be included in RocketShotz growing directory.

The service overall seems to be very much like WidSets, which is getting ready to launch its new service complete with additional search functions and recommendation tools. As these kinds of services act as the Pageflakes of mobile, getting a good spot on someone’s portal could do wonders if you happen to be a website publisher with a mobile version of your site.

The major companies like AOL and Yahoo are taking the portal approach to mobile search, which is good for the providers of the portal, and good for any third-party services that can ride this train. With larger companies such as AOL, however, its own content is often promoted. A similar service, GetMobio, has recently added upgrades to its mobile browsing options as well.

Nicole, This seems more an online manager of bookmark.... Not really in the same category of Widsets or Webwag....

This is a pretty good looking app, however i dont feel, at the moment it will be taking over widsets in the near future. Good idea but i feel it needs more work. Widsets id working very well for me.
