Google has lost another top player. This time, Salman Ullah, Google’s director of corporate development, has departed from the search giant to found the venture firm Copper River Partners.
Ullah is an owner of the new venture firm, and has surely gained a vast amount of knowledge from his involvement with Google’s own acquisition efforts. Venturebeat reports that Ullah was seen as recently as August speaking at conferences in regards to what Google seeks out in companies that it will consider for acquisition. As venture firms often fund a company and catapult it into the arms of another, larger firm, Ullah seems like a good point person for any startups that Copper River will be a part of.
Not everyone that leaves Google goes off to start their own investment companies. Benjamin Ling has seemingly been lured away by the smell of fresh blood over at Facebook. Other recent executive departures include Yahoo’s Matthew Heist for SideStep, Gideon Yu from YouTube to Facebook, and Niklas Zennstrom resigning from Skype.
User comment: By: AngelosUllah should have a wealth of leads for his new firm considering the number of companies Google contemplates but never acquires...many of these deals are probably not publicized either. Concerning Zennstrom, did he not already resign to head Joost? Was he fulfilling both positions simultaneously?
