Userplane has announced that it will be releasing Userplane Mediaplayer, an application that Web publishers can use to provide their users with video uploading service. Additionally, Userplane will offer publishers a revenue share on the advertising sold in videos.

userplane playerThe move follows VideoEgg's announcement that they are getting out of this business. Michael Jones, CEO of Userplane, said in a statement:

"The release of Mediaplayer solidifies Userplane's brand as a complete social networking platform solution. We look forward to assisting VideoEgg customers in making a seamless and painless transition to Mediaplayer."

While VideoEgg's has moved towards becoming an ad network, Userplane has continued down the path of offering white label community features like chat and instant messaging. Video is a logical addition to this business model, and the company clearly sees a big opportunity in migrating over VideoEgg's publishers. With YouTube now rumored to be moving into the white label video space as well, Userplane will want to move quickly to get VideoEgg's publishers onto their platform.

Userplane was purchased by AOL in 2006.
