Userplane, which provides white label community software, has announced the launch of Desktop, a brandable Adobe Air application. This allows web sites that utilize Userplane community features to offer their users a desktop application that can provide them with real-time updates when they're not logged into the site through a Web browser.

moviefoneFor example, Desktop can alert you of new messages, IMs, or friend requests. Desktop is branded to match the look and feel of the web site – such as in the Moviefone example shown here. It's yet another community application from Userplane, who just last week announced a private label video offering in hopes of acquiring some migrating VideoEgg customers.

The larger trend here is that Adobe Air seems to be creating a new market for lightweight desktop apps. For example, if you're a heavy Twitter user, chances are you're using something like Snitter or Twhirl to keep up with messages, both of which are Adobe Air Applications. Sean recently took a look at 10 different Adobe Air apps you might also want to check out.
