iGoogle Gets Five New Themes - SendMeRSS

igoogle

iGoogle, how we love thee, despite your humble appearance! From now on, this appearance can be freshened up with five new themes, some of which are actually quite nice. Like other iGoogle themes, they change depending on the time of day, except “Solar System”, which changes daily.

The themes aren’t actually publicly available yet, but with a bit of JavaScript trickery you can enable them. All you have to do is go to iGoogle and type one of the following in the address bar:

javascript:_dlsetp(’preview_skin=skins/planets.xml’);
javascript:_dlsetp(’preview_skin=skins/autumns.xml’);
javascript:_dlsetp(’preview_skin=skins/hongkong.xml’);
javascript:_dlsetp(’preview_skin=skins/jr.xml’);
javascript:_dlsetp(’preview_skin=skins/tiger.xml’);

..and then choose “Select a Theme For This Tab” and click on “Save”, but don’t select any theme.

You can see how they look (in the same order as presented above) after the jump. (more…)

RZ is absolutely correct. Make sure the apostrophes are vertical (') instead of curved. When I did that, it worked like a charm.

This did not work for me in Firefox.

It didn't work for me either at first (in Firefox or IE), but then I noticed that when copying and pasting the javascript command, I ended up with curly apostrophes. Changing them back to straight apostrophes did the trick.

I can get it to work in IE, and then if I refresh the same page in Firefox, I can see it there, too. Hope this helps...
