Amazon now has Customer Video Reviews, which lets customers share their visual comments and opinions about products sold on the site. Considering Amazon’s reliance on customer reviews and feedback for providing recommendations, it’s not a surprising addition for Amazon’s services. I imagine that the new video options will be a welcome and interesting addition to Amazon’s culture of customer reviews.
You can find the new video reviews in the Customer Reviews section of items sold on Amazon. With the new video reviews, you’ll have the ability to upload wmv, mpeg, QuickTime or AVI files. It’s even gone so far as to include software on the Flip Video camcorder for uploading videos to the site, to encourage users to upload videos. That may be a necessary move for Amazon, which has a very wide user base. While its customer reviews are integral to its recommendation tools, Amazon isn’t considered purely for its reviews, but also for its retail power.
Unlike ExpoTV, which has focused on the niche of video reviews, Amazon is adding this feature onto an existing and established service. I think that video reviews will be a welcome feature for the retail giant, and Amazon’s additional moves to further encourage consumers could be further helped with online and on-site promotions as well.
