Rolling Stone Goes Digital - SendMeRSS

You know that the times are a-changing when mastodons like Rolling Stone are embracing new technologies. Well, strike that, having a digital version of a magazine is not exactly “new technology”, but I guess you gotta start somewhere, right?

Believe it or not, the latest copy of Rolling Stone will be available in a free online version, and this is the first time Rolling Stone has had a complete digital issue. This move coincides with the fortieth anniversary of Rolling Stone, but nothing that is said on the official blog indicates that Rolling Stone will continue to offer digital issues in the future. In other words, don’t expect every Rolling Stone issue to always be online (and free) from now on.

The actual document viewer used is placed in a window way too small for today’s standards, but the issue is quite readable none the less. It’s available here.

It's pretty embarassing isn't it? The reader version it uses is (C) 2000-2005, and even the (C) looks like the most up-to-date part of the experience. I'm certainly not having a dig at RS - which is an awesome magazine, but the technology used here seems really dated. Even Zinio and Ceros have been doing some more interesting stuff with turning pdfs into digital magazines... Anyway, if anyone from RS is reading - drop me an email and we will get your content distributed in a properly engaging format via http://www.idiomag.com :)
