You may have noticed th awful URL for Google’s OpenSocial website: http://code.google.com/apis/opensocial. Looks like they didn’t get OpenSocial.com in time (or at all).
The OpenSocial domain is actually owned by an Australia-based company called VastPark, which ironically (or not so much) has visions of a platform similar to Google’s. VastPark would actually operate in virtual worlds, including Second Life and There.com. VastPark CEO Bruce Joy started is company years ago with this in mind.
What VastPark does is let you join virtual worlds and connect with others in other places. It’s got a strong focus on 3D, which is more like Second Life than many other web-based virtual worlds that have grown in popularity. Nevertheless, Venturebeat reports that VastPark hasn’t quite gained much traction.
Joy is planning on a trip to Silicon Valley to see if he can raise as much as $15 million, but now that his domain name has gained so much attention, could he be thinking of selling? Probably not. The notability of his domain name alone could get him the attention he’d like from the press and others. And selling his domain name could change much of what Joy’s already built up towards his own OpenSocial.

User comment: By: Jeffro2pt0So I imagine this is somehow going to end up in court?
