The big story of the weekend was the Mark Zuckerberg interview at South by Southwest, or, as it has turned into, criticism of the way Business Week reporter Sarah Lacy handled the interview. In case you missed it, Kristen was in attendance and has a recap of what happened, and there is also plenty of discussion far and wide in the blogosphere and on Twitter.

Meanwhile, from a distance, I recalled a poll we ran a couple months ago following Zuckerberg's appearance on "60 Minutes," where the vast majority of you thought his performance was average at best, which lead me to question whether he was the right selection to keynote at one of the top tech conferences of the year.

In any event, the mob that was in attendance seems to fairly universally agree that Lacy was to blame for an interview that didn't produce anything new or interesting, but, let's put it to a poll:

Who is to blame for Zuckberg's disappointing keynote?

Userplane, which provides white label community software, has announced the launch of Desktop, a brandable Adobe Air application. This allows web sites that utilize Userplane community features to offer their users a desktop application that can provide them with real-time updates when they're not logged into the site through a Web browser.

moviefoneFor example, Desktop can alert you of new messages, IMs, or friend requests. Desktop is branded to match the look and feel of the web site – such as in the Moviefone example shown here. It's yet another community application from Userplane, who just last week announced a private label video offering in hopes of acquiring some migrating VideoEgg customers.

The larger trend here is that Adobe Air seems to be creating a new market for lightweight desktop apps. For example, if you're a heavy Twitter user, chances are you're using something like Snitter or Twhirl to keep up with messages, both of which are Adobe Air Applications. Sean recently took a look at 10 different Adobe Air apps you might also want to check out.

ilike

remMusic discovery social network (most famous for its Facebook application) iLike will be streamed in its entirety beginning March 24th - a week before is US release on April 1st. R.E.M. will also record an exclusive video message for iLike users in which they’ll introduce and discuss the album. The album is called “Accelerate” and if you still hope it’ll be better than “Automatic For The People,” wake the hell up. It won’t.

This is cool news for iLike, which has really gone a long way. One day, everyone around you is telling you that making Facebook apps is a waste of time and that it’ll never amount to anything, and the next day a huge rock band is streaming its new album through your service. Next step: Rolling Stones give exclusive distribution rights for their new album for a plugin of a widget in an iPhone app.
